4.9 / 5 · 104 totalWe appointed Edinburgh Stonemasons for masonry, leadwork and other repairs on the front elevation of a large corner-block in Ednburgh’s New Town. The work was completed on-time and (importantly for us) the scaffolding came down quickly afterwards. Stewart Inkster gave regular updates as the work progressed, with photos and clear commentary. We were very pleased with the whole experience.
Where to begin? Well starting with the man: Stewart Inkster is professional and polite (and charming). He does not have his children’s inheritance in mind when estimating (he never did tell me a price but in the end I felt the bill was fair). He spent a considerable amount of time climbing and shaking garden walls proving to me the limits of work NOT to be done, emphasizing only what was truly indicated. He explained his work lasts about a lifetime. After devising a plan, he returned with his team: all friendly, polite, and absolutely meticulous. Stewart is like a marine: his staff follow his letter of the law observing all his safety policies including proper attire. I might add that they are punctual. About the workmanship: it left me with my jaw dropped. Stewart is so particular about his work, I watched him rebuild a part of the wall four times. He assembled it to the top (and I thought he was done…it looked very nice) and then the next time I looked out my window it was in pieces on the ground and there he was chipping and shaving away minute bits of stone. PERFECTIONIST! Like the most fussy, precise stone mason in the world. No, I am NOT exaggerating. The walls are STUNNING and I expect will last four lifetimes. No, I was not paid to write this about Stewart, nor did I receive a discount, nor did he threaten my family. He really is the BEST! Hire him if you are lucky enough to find he is available. PS He also found other tradespeople to help me with my home. Who does that? Stewart is a knight in very shiny armor!
Stewart did work for us in Edinburgh repairing a broken chimney pot which was dangerous, replacing the top of a cupola and gutter cleaning recently and we have used Edinburgh Stonemasons before. In fact, I would not go elsewhere as his services are top notch. I highly recommend him and his company as they are professional, with great rates and are prompt!
Great service. Stewart and his team have been back twice now and done work for us and it has been an excellent job each time. Really good communication throughout, very polite and tidy and we will definitely use them again!
Stewart and his team did a great job resolving our humidity issues by putting in airbricks to ventilate the solum/floor space through extremely thick stone walls. The work was excellent. Stewart was reliable, obliging and good at keeping us informed of work and schedule. I would 100% recommend.
Excellent professional efficient work done by Stewart and his team repairing and rebuilding a substantial part of a gable sandstone wall. Diligent, friendly, punctual , communicative and went the extra mile to keep the site clean and our neighbours happy. A dedicated craftsman and team we’d highly recommend.
Stewart always produces work to an extremely high quality. He sets himself high standards and always achieves these. On this particular job he organised all Council permits, scaffold and carried out all lead works too. A very honest and friendly, if a bit nutty, top professional. I couldn't recommend highly enough
