Unfortunately my partner lost her war with cancer last week and yesterday was cremated at Shay Grange. I've driven past it numerous times but (thankfully) never had cause to visit before. Until yesterday. It is in a great location with lovely views and the buildings are brand new. The structure and flow of it all just works. Ample parking right outside and there is a purpose built waiting lounge. All very comfortable. I understand there are two rooms available for services - one with seating for up to 24 and another up to 160. I heard from my Funeral Director though that there are funerals with over 300, with standing and indeed the waiting lounge being used for overflow with a live TV link. Funerals are an inevitable part of the circle of life and if you want to be cremated and live in the area, you can't go wrong making it easier for your loved ones than choosing Shay Grange.
I attended a funeral here a week ago tomorrow and it was a beautiful service. Without going into detail of the funeral itself, the crematorium was beautifully built, with wooden features and surrounded by nature. Truly reflecting the service that we were there for. It was a clean and modern building that is able to accommodate large attendances. Unfortunately (or fortunately), I didn't need the toilet so I can't comment on that one. Plenty of parking, they were decorated with plants and trees too! I didn't get to have a stroll around as I was too emotional, but I'm guessing the surrounds were just as lovely. It's out of the way to it's a very peaceful place to say goodbye to your loved ones.
If I could give this Service a 1000/10 I most certainly would. It's a bit of a nightmare to find bit the perfect setting to say a final farewell to a much loved friend. Very sadly it was the turn of a wonderful Scottish lady yesterday and some years ago I regarded her as a second mum and the dozens of people in the crematorium yesterday simply proved that the feeling was mutual. The flowers, setting and her very extended family came from all over the Country so at the reception I met some delightful people even the father of a man I was great friends with until he passed far too early, 14 years ago and the best part of all is that they are close neighbours so I'm sure we'll see more of each other as time permits. Pat was a great mover and from virtually nothing built not only a wonderful family but also set up and ran an incredible business. This will continue with her grandchildren at the helm continuing the values they've all inherited from her. I met her younger brother yesterday and he gave an incredible speech about Pat and her life and enormous love for her friends, family, garden and gardening. Later I spoke to him and he described her as a weeble. They might fall down but they bounce straight back up !! He couldn't have given a better description of a lady who will be missed by everyone who knew her for a very long time. RIP Patricia Mclean .
Had our beloved Auntie's funeral here yesterday, and Crystal and team took such great care of our family, made sure everyone was comfortable, very personable - service was just beautiful, and our family deeply appreciated this. Was a beautiful day set out to celebrate Auntie Sylvia. Thank you to all the team.
A large, fresh and modern room. Clean and bright. It was, however, lacking in any character. It was crying out for a focal point. When you're sitting there, thinking of your recently departed loved one you need something to look at. This place needs a stained glass window or a sculpture. It might as well have been a conference room.
Beautiful setting. Thoughtful and personable surroundings and furnishings. Spacious and respectful of it's surroundings
