Evans & Burkey

Evans & Burkey Memorials is a family-run business that was established in 1896 and is described as the oldest stonemasonry company in Liverpool. The company specialises in granite, marble and natural stone memorials, importing all its stone direct from the quarries. Its workmanship is guaranteed.

Its stone masons, sculptors and letter cutters are highly skilled and time-served. The company offers kerb memorials, upright memorials, memorial plaques and vases, and memorial inscriptions, and also specialises in additional cleaning, inscription and renovation work. It is registered as a limited company in England and Wales.

Craftsmanship and a caring approach run through the accounts left for this Liverpool memorial mason, whose work spans new headstones, additional inscriptions, lettering restoration and photographic etching on existing stones. Customers in several reviews describe how older graves were cleaned and brought back to a near-new condition, with renewed engraving and gilding carried out to a high standard. The finish of the completed memorials is the point that comes up most often, whether a family stone was added to, an existing inscription was restored in gold leaf, or a full headstone was supplied and set in place.

Matthew is named specifically for the help he gave in arranging an engraving and a new photograph, and the same helpfulness is reported from initial meetings, where advice was offered with patience and courtesy at a distressing time. Reliability comes through as well, one family noting a wait of roughly six months from ordering to installation but judging the result well worth it. Professionalism from first contact to final fixing is a recurring theme, together with the respectful manner shown towards bereaved families, and the standard of the masonry itself leaves customers eager to pass the firm's name on.
