D & M Monumental Masons

D & M Monumental Masons was established in 1975 and is an independent family-run business. It is a member of the National Association of Monumental Masons (NAMM) and serves on the NAMM board responsible for regulating the industry. The company specialises in bespoke memorials made from premium quality granite sourced directly from India and around the world. It deals directly with a factory in India, having visited the factory and quarry in person, and is in touch with them on a weekly basis. It can show a photo of the memorial before it leaves the factory.

The factory has over 200 skilled craftsmen. D & M Monumental Masons is the only stone mason in Nottingham who deals directly with the factory. Services include additional inscriptions carved to match existing memorials, hand cut lettering, cleaning and renovation of memorials, transportation where difficulties exist, and home appointments. It also produces a wide range of stone items including headstones, vases, plaques, benches, house signs, kitchen work surfaces, granite floor and wall tiles.

Care, craftsmanship and a personal touch emerge as the strongest themes running through the feedback for this Arnold memorial mason. Several buyers describe staff members, including Claire, Mick, Adam and Pauline, as approachable and willing to spend time advising families on inscriptions, lettering and design during what many describe as a distressing period. Reviewers repeatedly mention that nothing felt like too much trouble, with requests handled respectfully and individual wishes taken into account. The quality of the finished memorials attracts particular praise: one family notes that an existing headstone, cleaned, re-lettered and re-gilted, came back looking almost new despite its age, while others describe work completed from start to finish without fuss.

Turnaround on an existing stone was achieved within about a fortnight so that it stood ready for a family anniversary. Communication before and after the work is a point that comes up often, with updates given and guidance offered throughout, and the standard of the stonework itself, from new headstones to additional wording, is described as excellent. Families frequently express gratitude for the sensitivity shown at a difficult time, and the business is characterised as genuine and professional in its dealings.
