Memorial masons · Reading

A simple flat memorial plaque typically costs £300-£700, while a standard upright headstone in granite or marble usually runs £900-£2,000, and larger bespoke memorials with detailed lettering or carving can cost £2,500-£5,000 or more. Additional inscriptions added later are often charged separately, typically £80-£200.

Price depends mainly on the stone type, size and shape chosen, the amount and style of lettering or artwork, whether the cemetery has specific memorial regulations, and delivery or installation logistics. Some cemeteries and churchyards also charge their own permit fees on top of the mason's charge, which can add several hundred pounds.

Checking that a mason is registered with a recognised trade body, such as the British Register of Accredited Memorial Masons, offers reassurance on workmanship and materials.
