Golden Charter holds a 3.4 rating from 91 Google reviews, a more mixed picture than most other companies in this directory. While some reviewers praise individual advisors for their helpfulness when first setting up a plan, a recurring concern among lower-rated reviews involves additional fees deducted from funeral plans at the time of need, and difficulty reaching customer service once a plan has already been purchased. As Golden Charter administers pre-paid funeral plans rather than conducting funerals directly, families are encouraged to clarify exactly what a plan covers before committing.

3.4 / 5 · 91 totalFuneral plans are a waste of money. You still have to pay extra after funeral! You would be better off putting your money into a savings account and pay for the funeral when you need to.
Absolutely fabulous customer service IF you haven't bought anything from them yet (40 seconds to answer the phone). Absolutely rubbish if you have ALREADY bought a plan . My partner spent 30 minutes last week for them NOT to answer the phone. A further 20 a few days later, and is currently waiting for someone to pick up after 25 minutes today. Try it....it's enlightening! 🤔
May I just say, a very big thank you to Amanda who has helped us so much with regard to our choice of funeral director, and also to Paolo and Charlene for the assistance, lovely people to speak to. Although, Thomas was not interested in giving any assistance. Our only hope that all will; be well after reading the negative reviews.
I have just read about this company and by reading some of the reviews I am know having mixed feelings if I should go a head with it I just want one simple direct creamation and go with a company that is loyal and trustworthy and a simple funeral plan to pay the exact amount every month no rip offs it's bit disappointing when you are pressured into paying funeral plans haven't even died yet living is hard enough but that's how it goes it's good these funeral directors gives you the choice to go on these plans so when you do die it's not up to family or your partners to have a big funeral bill to pay some people have not got no family to pay the bill or the person that have died haven't put a penny away or haven't got a bank account to even pay it they got to bury you or creamation some how
Don’t touch them with a barge pole. My father paid 4.5k for an FPT through advice from a Golden Charter agent. The company, McLures, went bust and taken over by another set of rogue solicitors. Golden Charter has said they are not responsible for our loss. They would have been in commission for all the plans they sold. Financial Conduct Authorities should be held liable to to ensure a proper investigation. My father died nearly 2 years ago and I still don’t have the house in my name. Many MPs are being consulted about this abomination. We are all having to pay many, many more thousands to get our property back, incurring massive lawyer fees
Sadly following the death of my mother, I have had to contact Golden Charter to utilise her plan. Only to find that £699 has been deducted from her payment of £2700 as unexplainable 'expenses' for marketing contributiin , legal advice and admin. This is preying on the elderly who think they are doing the right thing. Shocking.
My mother paid for her funeral Plan some 30 years ago roughly paid 3500 into the fund expecting her funeral to Be paid in full when she passed Away. For me to find out that her plan didn’t cover the cremation fees. Doctors fees as She died in a care home. Celebrant fees. So I got an invoice some 4 months after she passed and I was given a invoice of £600 plus that was outstanding. Disgusting falsely sold the policy.
